MEMBER WELFARE
Keith Jones advised me this afternoon that he is much recovered from his procedure carried out last Tuesday. Apparently, his recovery is ahead of expected schedule and he should be home tomorrow (Friday).
Unfortunately, Keith will be unable to join us for the Retreat which he has so capably organized and planned once again. He will contact me on Sunday for another update.
Gig Feedback - Well done everybody
Many thanks to, approximately 28 members, who performed at the AWM on Thursday morning at the Battle of Britain ceremony. Once again we received excellent recognition in the Vote of Thanks and from the MC.
Goulburn Retreat this weekend
All is in readiness for a fabulous practice weekend. The Keith Jones administration sheet, long since distributed, is the definitive guide. Please plan to arrive between 10.00 to 10.30 am on Saturday morning to have a cuppa before we get called to start promptly at 11.00 am.
The repertoire to be practiced is:
[New Sheets] I Am Australian
[New Sheets] Shall We Gather
[YB13] When the Saints
[New Sheets] Our Cities face the Sea
[YB04] Cantique de Jean Racine
[125] Ave Verum
[31] Speed your Journey
[79] Take Me Home
[YB02] A Roving
[YB06] Off to the Outback
[47] Anthem from Chess
[YB05] HMS Pinafore
[92] Stout Hearted Men
Please arrange your music accordingly.
There is no need to bring choir uniforms. Casual dress for the weekend will be fine (plus something about coolness of rooms?) plus what you might wish to change into for the dinner at the Workers Club on Saturday evening.
The Goulburn weather forecast for Saturday is Sunny 8-23 and Sunday is Sunny 9-23. So that is the outside temperature, but the inside temperature of the Conservatorium is coolish.
Calendar
Please update your diaries. At the moment if you have a MAC there is a link that will do this automatically by clicking on the icon on our website www.rugbychoir.org.au/calendar.html
Thursday, 29th September
Annual Police Memorial Service, Kings Park memorial, 5.00 for 5.30pm. Please add your names to the gig sheet. Plan to clothe appropriately. From experience, temperatures plummet so you'll need numerous layers of warmth under the blue jacket and thermal undies.
Concerts in October
Please note: You are well aware by now that our Concerts are scheduled for 13th and 15th October. It may have escaped some of you that we also have a gig at the AWM on Friday 14th. So please manage your time (and laundering of uniforms?) to meet such pressures of commitments. I know you can manage it all!
Saturday 15th October
A bargain, $25 per ticket and $20 concessions for friends and relatives. Each member will be allocated a minimum of FOUR tickets to the Saturday Concert and the aim is to have each of you returned $80 - $100. Obviously, please be out there touting for as many paying customers as possible.
The Concert sub-committee is close to finalising promotional material for the sale of tickets. Our aim is to fill Hughes Baptist Church Hall, present a quality performance, have fun doing it, and to make some money for the choir.
Please ensure your attendance at both concerts and the Retreat. Remember also the Matinee Concert on Thursday 13 October concert for the Aged Care.
22-23 October, Moruya / Batemans Bay Weekend
Details will be issued very soon about our participation in the Moruya Festival of Song once again plus the Gospel Music performance in the Catholic Church on Saturday evening.
Arrangements are being finalised for a Batemans Bay gig on the Sunday. Accommodation package is being arranged in Batemans Bay.
For the moment, please put the weekend in your diaries and be a part of a great musical, social and community time.
Friday 4th November Evening
Please try to attend this gig at the Woden Tradies to assist the Tradies in their sponsorship of the Woden Community Festival week.
Gig sheet is available. We need to be seen to support one of our major sponsors, The Tradies in this venture.
Together with the ARC, Woden Valley Youth Choir and Credo will also be performing. We have just learned that the Canberra College Brass Band will be the fourth participant.
London 2012 Concert
No practices for the next two Sundays due to the Retreat and Andrea's absence. See Rick Dresser's recent email re next practice Sunday 2nd October at Southern Cross Club. Tenors 3.30 to 4.30; Baritones/basses 4.30 to 5.30pm.
Please note that all members may participate in these extra practices if they wish, not just intending London participants.
Uniform Blazer
Those intending to participate in the Annual Concerts in October will need to wear the blazer, so time left to guarantee delivery before 13th October is running out. If you have not been fitted out and ordered by this time, it would be wise to check with Workin Gear if there is still time to receive your blazer before 13th October.
This will also be the final opportunity to purchase the blazer at the current price. Workin Gear will revert to normal commercial rates after this initial bulk ordering phase.
Those of you who have collected your blazers should see Peter Scott to be handed your pocket logo insert.
PLEASE NOTE
Your committee decided that, on those occasions when the blazer is to be worn in performance, the blazer will be buttoned by the top button only.
From Neil
Please attend to homework requirements from Andrea. It will be important to have revised our recent work before the Retreat as emphasised by herself on Tuesday night!
Looking forward to seeing the majority of you in Goulburn over the weekend. An excellent turnout this year chaps! So let's focus on improving those skills, attend to our practice etiquette expectations out of consideration for our professional musical staff, simultaneously as we have fun. Things augur well for our upcoming concerts.
NEXT PRACTICE 20 SEPTEMBER CANCELLED
On the advice of the MD, your committee has agreed to dispense with this practice that immediately follows our Retreat weekend. Her OH&S advice is that following such a weekend of intense voice work it would be detrimental to indulge in a further workout so soon after the weekend. Therefore, next practice will be Tuesday 27th September at the Tradies as usual. Tradies have been informed.
