1 September 2011

Tuesday 13th September

Practice will NOT be at the Tradies for this one night only. Please note in your diaries that practice will be in the Orion Room of the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Corinna Street, Woden at the usual times.

Calendar

Please update your diaries. At the moment if you have a MAC there is a link that will do this automatically by clicking on the icon on our website www.rugbychoir.org.au/calendar.html

Our Retreat 17-18 September in Goulburn

Please ensure your attendance at our week-end retreat and both October concerts. New members especially will benefit from the weekend Retreat. The thorough musical workout and good fun is the sure way to cement your relationship with the choir.

Check the Keith Jones email on the Goulburn week-end which has distributed by Geoff Ford. Remember you need to add your name to the attendance sheet and also to give $32 to Keith if you are going to the Saturday night dinner.

Look at your car pooling options and decide if you might share accommodation. Ensure that you EMAIL Goulburn to book your accommodation. Bookings must be made by 3rd September to take advantage of the group rates. Copies of all emails from Geoff Ford are on the website under latest news.

Concerts in October

Please note: You are well aware by now that our Concerts are scheduled for 13th and 15th October. It may have escaped some of you that we also have a gig at the AWM on Friday 14th. So please manage your time (and laundering of uniforms?) to meet such pressures of commitments. I know you can manage it all!

Sat 15th October

A bargain, $25 per ticket and $20 concessions for friends and relatives. Each member will be allocated a minimum of FOUR tickets to the Saturday Concert and the aim is to have each of you returned $80 - $100.

The Concert sub-committee is close to finalising promotional material for the sale of tickets. Our aim is to fill Hughes Baptist Church Hall, present a quality performance, have fun doing it, and to make some money for the choir.

Please ensure your attendance at both concerts and the Retreat. Remember also the Matinee Concert on Thursday 13 October concert for the Aged Care.

22-23 October, Moruya / Batemans Bay weekend

Details will be issued very soon about our participation in the Moruya Festival of Song once again plus the Gospel Music performance in the Catholic Church.

Arrangements are being finalised for a gig in Batemans Bay on the Sunday. Accommodation package is being arranged in Batemans Bay.

For the moment, please put the weekend in your diaries and be a part of a great musical, social and community time.

Friday 4th November evening

Please try to attend this gig at the Woden Tradies to assist the Tradies in their sponsorship of the Woden Community Festival week.

Gig sheet is available. We need to be seen to support one of our major sponsors, The Tradies in this venture.

Progress is being made in engaging other performers for the evening like the Woden Valley Youth Choir, Hall Village Brass Band and Credo.

London 2012 Concert

Rick Dresser advises that 36 members have paid the accommodation deposit for the London hotel. This is a fantastic response to what should be a great experience for those able to participate.

Joint practices will commence this SUNDAY afternoon, 4th September in the Rainbow Room (downstairs room) at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden. T1s and T2s will practice from 3.30; baritones/basses at 4.30pm.
Uniform Blazer

Many thanks to the huge majority of members who have arranged fitting and ordering of the new blazer, from Workin Gear in Fyshwick. Remember that if you intend to participate in the October Concerts that wearing of the blazer is stipulated, therefore you should arrange to visit Workin Gear by 9th September at the latest to ensure delivery before the 13th October.

Those of you who have collected your blazers should see Peter Scott to be handed your pocket logo insert. Peter also has collected a supply of spare uniform buttons for the blazers should anyone need a replacement in the future.

Member Welfare

Darryl Cupid has been reported to be on Highway Number 1 to the northern latitudes. Enjoy your time with Val; the salt air and relaxing. Best wishes and the baritone numbers are still holding up, not too sure about the voices.

Australian War Memorial

Further good news was received from the AWM this week with their decision to increase the payments to the ARC for our performances at their ceremonies. We will be paid for eight designated gigs in 2011-12 and we will perform at a further eight pro-bono gigs.

The AWM is delighted with the relationship with the choir and seeks to maintain the ties. Eddy and I reassured the AWM that those sentiments were reciprocated. Therefore it will continue to be incumbent on all members to do their best to attend as many AWM gigs as possible, as you do already.

Homework

Please attend to homework requirements from Andrea. Check out the new song Our Cities Face the Sea. The Sib file has been distributed and scores issued last Tues night. You need to be familiar with the score for Tuesday night.

NO, you do not have to be confident; but you need to be aware, start with a play and run through of the Sibelius file. Pick out your part; please do not be seen to be totally ignorant.

Your committee is endeavouring to focus attention on deliberate use of the Sibelius tool by members as the major adjunct to the Tuesday night training. This will benefit everyone as the Tuesday training should then be just to tweak it.

If you need Sibelius help ask your committee and a sib buddy will be found for you.

Regards
Neil

Many Parts in Tune

Woden Valley Youth Choir

Is presenting an uplifting concert at the new Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, "The Q", in September.

Nearly one hundred talented young musicians will deliver an inspiring program packed with spunky choreography, controlled classics, funny folk songs and cleanse-your-soul ballads, and we would be grateful if you could publicise the concert within the Australian Rugby Choir community (for example, in a newsletter, on a website, on a noticeboard, or during announcements).
