Fundraising Concerts in October
It's time to start revving up the friends and associates for attendance at our Saturday Concert on 15th October in the afternoon this year. The afternoon venture was introduced largely in response to suggestions from members so get out there and get the people along. Remember $25 per ticket and $20 concessions.
The Concert sub-committee is close to finalising promotional material for the sale of tickets. Our aim is to fill Hughes Baptist Church Hall, present a quality performance, have fun doing it, and to make some money for the choir.
Canberra Choir Database
Alastair Crombie has compiled a data base of Canberra's choirs. If you have contacts with any of those choirs, please indicate on that sheet at practice so that you can assist with distribution of promotional concert material to be available soon to those other choirs.
London 2012 Concert
Rick Dresser has sent more London information from to prospective participants. Part practices are back in swing. Participants will have received their notice of required payment for 25% of booked accommodation costs.
I Am Australian
Please consider the request from Andrea about singing the solo tenor line of this song as practiced at recent practices. Please contact me if you feel qualified and able to perform in this way.
Andrea was happy to distribute the words sheet for Shall We Gather at the River prepared by Frank Bergersen as a possible aid to learning. Thanks Frank.
Uniform Blazer
The earliest of the blazers ordered have been delivered. Please arrange to get your orders in if you have not already done so.
NOTE: in response to questions by a couple of members, you are reminded of the question that was voted on that saw the blazer introduced: the blazer needs to be able to be buttoned at the front. Your committee envisaged that when the blazer is worn in performance, it will be buttoned at the front. Therefore, when attending your fitting for the blazer, please ensure that you carefully consider whatever girth you have been endowed with!
Cost of the blazer has been reduced to $148.50. Members will need to personally attend Workin Gear, Paragon Mall, Gladstone Street, Fyshwick during working hours to be measured and fitted for their blazer. You will be contacted when your blazer is ready to be collected but allow approx 3 weeks. Payment can be made at fitting or pick up. As the first wearing of the blazer has been designated for the first Annual Concert performance on Thursday 13th October, members are advised to get there soon but by the week ending 9th September at the latest to play safe with delivery times before the concert.
Calendar Clarification of some gigs
Please update your diaries. At the moment if you have a MAC there is a link that will do this automatically. Check out the website www.rugbychoir.org.au/calendar.html
Wed 31st August
Full details are still being finalised but the choir has been asked to perform at the launch of a new logo and social program of the Council on the Ageing (COTA) at their headquarters in Hughes. Put the date in your diary and watch for the gig sheet soon. Considerable assistance with promotion for our concerts around the Aged Care fraternity will be afforded by COTA very soon and so we want to reciprocate and support them too.
Note that the gigs mentioned at last practice as possibilities: AWM gig 2nd Sept and the Wesley Centre lunchtime concert on 21st Sept. Please note that NEITHER gig will now happen.
Please attend to Andrea's homework requirements. She will be issuing pointers each week for attention during your personal practice before the next practice.
Regards
Neil
