Doorkeepers
Many thanks to Des Grayson and Peter Tedder who have volunteered to assume the roles of Darryl Cupitt and Phil Gallagher while the latter two are absent over coming months. Thank you both and this is a good opportunity for people to "see" new faces. Be gentle with Des & Pete as we are greeted each practice.
Darryl has laid out gig sheets for all known gigs until our concerts in October. Please fill in your details for any of these gigs especially the Retreat and the two October concerts. Your committee is anxious to plan relevant elements for these major commitments and such data provided ASAP will assist.
Brumbies 28 May
Brumbies game v Stormers. Gig sheet entries are very good, thank you lads.
It would be good to see 30+ in attendance so please join us still even if your name is not on that list. This will be the game that turns things around! (Golly it's hard being a Canberra football supporter in 2011).
ANCA magazine Sing Out
Sing Out has published an article on the ARC in its latest publication. It is on the gig sheet table for your perusal.
Wollongong Regional Tour 21-22 May
Reactions to the recent weekend away appear to have been favourable. A fun and engaging weekend was had by our 25 members, many with partners, in conjunction with the Arcadian Lamplighters.
Excellent work Max Brennan for your organisation for this successful week-end and also to Dave Bryars in Wollongong. Our thoughts are with the Arcadians' Lamplighters musical director Doreen Bryars and wish her a speedy recovery.
Our Annual Fundraising Concert in October
Plans are proceeding. Gig sheets will on the table to indicate your intention to participate in either or hopefully both concerts.
I have had it confirmed only this afternoon that David Kilby will be delighted to accept our invitation to be Master Ceremony at the Saturday afternoon concert. You will recall that David was disappointed in not to be available for last year's concert and he asked to be remembered for this year's duty. System works!
Antarctica Conference
Saturday 25th June at the ANU School of Music, Band Room, Peter Karmel Building, from 8-9.45pm
Tickets available at the door $15 full, $10 concession, students free. See the following link
www.music.anu.edu.au/events/antarctica-music-festival
Part 1: Canberra Girls Grammar School Choir and Australian Rugby Choir present Antarctica related songs.
Part 2: Performance artist, Cheryl Leonard (USA), presents natural sounds and instruments collected in Antarctica.
Sib files from Andrea have been distributed for the proposed songs. Continue to practice from these please.
This gig was always promoted as one where we would use books and sing in unison so please familiarise yourselves with the single melody for each of the six songs and make up one small folder with only the pages of words so efficiently prepared by Ian Johnson recently. Thanks again Johnno.
Annual Retreat 17-18 September in Goulburn
Please ensure that you can attend this weekend traditional retreat. This year we expect to need practice not only for our Concert but also for the Police Memorial Service and the Heart Foundation Service.
As we expect to be provided very soon with the Oceania Confederation's repertoire choices for the 2012 London Concert, we are hopeful of including some of that in our concerts. Plenty of notice has been given via the forecast calendar so try to do your part to complete the arrangements and planning that are well underway.
Remember, try to attend both days but if you can attend only one day, that is fine also.
Blazer Sub-committee
Your committee met last Tuesday to consider information provided by the Blazer sub-committee. The decision has been taken to adopt a black blazer from Workin Gear for $165.
Sub-committee chair Eddy is in the throes of confirming orders, time frames, costs and details with Workin Gear before he arranges a display and final details for all members. Please ensure that you thank the sub-committee members Eddy, Keith Jones, Peter Cole, Frank Bergersen, Robert Macaulay and Peter Scott for the work they have put in on our behalf to assist the committee in coming to this decision.
Uniform
With the imminent introduction of a blazer, it is timely to repeat notices placed previously, that it is not acceptable for members to wear "close resemblances" of the stipulated uniform. The integrity of our uniform MUST always be maintained and assured. As such it is not to be compromised in any manner.
Such notices have been made following mention of such concern by several members in last year's uniform survey, and endorsed by your committee. The black blazer will be a specific one from Workin Gear with patch pockets and uniform buttons and members must not presume to wear a close resemblance.
As with any purchase of any part of the uniform, any member who experiences financial challenges in making such purchases may contact the Treasurer Rick Dresser privately and confidentially to arrange for assistance and repayment.
Sibelius files
Members should note that all converted Sibelius files remain the property of the Australian Rugby Choir and must not be transferred to third parties other than other financial members of the ARC.
Remember
All these files and this Warble are available on the website.
