24 March 2011
Australian War Memorial
Thank you to the 19 guys who performed last Friday at the AWM. Reports to me were that you did well once again and struck up a professional relationship with a new conductor of RMC Band.
Uniform
It is NOT acceptable for members to wear "close resemblances" of our stipulated uniform. You are expected to purchase the designated items so that the integrity of our uniform is assured. Please refer to earlier Warbles for details.
CHANGE OF PRACTICE VENUE & TIME
Next practice, on the 29th March, will be the final practice at the Canberra Services Club. From Tuesday 5th April, we will be practicing at the Woden Tradesmen Union Club, Furzer St, Phillip. Also, based upon the show of hands at last practice, we will revert to assembling at 7.15pm for a 7.30 start and finishing at 9.45pm.
Notice has been given to the Canberra Services Club, thanking them for the generous provision of their premises over the past 21 months, accompanied by a cheque for $500 as a contribution towards their Building Fund.
By a large majority, your committee accepted recommendations by a sub-committee that our needs would be better met at The Tradies in respect of atmosphere, ambience, bar service, bistro meals, storage for our equipment, disability access etc.
The usual expectation will be heeded that we all become members of The Tradies and membership forms have already begun to be completed.
Thanks and recognition need to go to Jim Cleaver who last year followed up on your committee encouragement for members to seek out favourable venues when our terms of use of the CSC had to change. His initiative was the catalyst for this move.
Wollongong Regional Tour
Max Brennan has distributed information about the Wollongong regional visit with the Arcadian Lamplighters on the weekend of 21-22 May. You need to make your own contact with the hotel to take advantage of the group booking deal. Insufficient interest was shown in hiring a coach so you are all to arrange your own transport to and from Wollongong.
Annual Fundraising Concert
Bookings have been made at the Hughes Baptist Church Hall for Thursday afternoon, 13th October and Saturday afternoon, 15th October for our Annual Fundraising Concerts. The Thursday afternoon will target the Aged Care market and the Saturday afternoon will target the normal market.
Please consider your work and diary commitments and endeavour to be available for BOTH concerts that week to assist in our own fundraising.
Antarctica Conference
Sib files have been distributed by Andrea for the proposed songs. Check them out please.
Annual Retreat
Your committee has tried to provide a significant lead time to enable you to plan your commitments accordingly. Our Retreat weekend has been booked once again at Goulburn Conservatorium for 17-18 September.
Choir Promotion
Remember to access the promotional e-flyers for display wherever you note an opportunity. This was a major Forum element raised last year to enhance promotion and recruitment so use these resources now made available please. An order is being currently processed for 300 hard copies as well.
From the London Gig 2012 Sub Committee
Please attend to your music folders following the Repertoire Committee work in rationalising previous indexes. Revised indexes were emailed/distributed to all members last week.
Male Choir Association of Australia
About 35 expressions of interest were given for the proposed MCAA Concert in Melbourne in Oct or November 2012, for planning purposes. About 30 of these expected their partner to accompany them.
Interest would appear to be promising from the majority of choirs who have responded.
Many Parts in Tune
